Sigma Xi Theta is a social fraternity.
By describing our platforms as community involvement & social action rather than community service we better align with the reality that SigXi is first and foremost a social fraternity while accommodating the truth that women who are drawn to the frat have a desire to make a difference.
Community Involvement & Social Action opens up the possibilities for members as well in regards to how we think about ways we can participate and create increased visibility for the fraternity.
By describing ourselves as community oriented we depart from the standard and somewhat stagnant arena of “traditional” volunteering Greek letter organizations are commonly known for.
Why Community Involvement?
Community Involvement is a tangible experience for individuals. It assists in allowing us to become more rooted in our local area, to connect with those we aim to support and uplift, as well as, those we would partner with to allow is to grow in our ability to be impactful. Additionally, it provides opportunity to apply the knowledge gained through our social action efforts, to assess where need may be present and to increase our our visibility as an organization.
Why Social Action?
Social Action is how change is created. Dedicating efforts toward educating ourselves, networking and activism is the bedrock of transformative outcomes. It expands our mindsets and prepares us for the journey to equality. It also allows us to be vest in and well versed on the issues the speak to the heart of the LGBT community.
SigXi Focused Action Initiatives
SigXi believes that part of effecting change in the community is education. Our goal is enlighten our communities regarding LGBT issues.
Our objectives will be what allow SigXi to be a fraternity not just for change but that is bringing about change.
SigXi believes all women, regardless of race, color, creed, orientation, gender identity or expression, should put their personal health at the top of the priority list.
Our goal is to educate the community on health issues women face. We aim to motivate women to take a proactive approach to their physical, mental and spiritual health.
SigXi works to inspire LGBT youth to live their lives openly and freely without fear of being discriminated against or being persecuted.
Our goal is to be an influence on the younger generation of dominant lesbians, preparing them for the difficulties they may face and instilling in them a sense of pride that carries them beyond the negativity they may encounter.
