MOVE WITH PURPOSE

LGBT Rights are being methodically stripped away through the marked efforts of an unapologetically anti-LGBT administration. The discrimination towards our community is being celebrated as a returning of the country to its hetero-supremist norms with the transgender community being particularly singled out. We are under attack as a community.

The time to take action is here, the time to Move With Purpose is now.

Sigma Xi Theta encourages you to move with purpose in the fight for LGBT Youth Advocacy, LGBT Rights and Women’s Health and Wellness. Education and activism go hand in hand. Move with purpose toward understanding the current state of our legal rights and with application of effort toward the fight to push back against those who would silence us.

U.S. Democrats are introducing the Equality Act which would expand the protections under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include “Sexual Orientation” and “Gender Identity” as well as prevents the Religious Freedom Restoration Act that was passed in 1993 and amended in 1997 to be applied in “Civil rights” matters.

The fight is not over, we have not lost, we have not given up. “Move With Purpose in 2025“

5 Next Steps to take Action

SigXi focuses our action on issues that affect the LGBT community. We are noticing a trend of overturned laws that were in place to protect our community. These trends are happening because the plight for change is not over. The fight for equality is not over.We need to move and MOVE WITH PURPOSE!

  • ENCOURAGE LGBT ACTIVISM

    We need to continue to build our LGBT leadership among our community. As we build this leadership, we will need to address ways to voice our concerns regarding civic rights and the protection of those rights. Sigma Xi Theta Fraternity has choice to educate our members to become these leaders through the Sigma Xi Theta Puma Prowess leadership program. Learn about additional organization that also support leadership in the community: Human Rights Campaign; LGBT Human Rights Advocacy.

  • SUPPORT THE EQUALITY ACT

    The Equality Act is a landmark piece of civil rights legislation. If enacted, it will explicitly establish permanent protections against discrimination based on an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity including protecting LGBTQ people in matters of employment, housing, and education.

  • STOP ANTI-LGBT LEGISLATION

    During the 2019, legislative session dozens of states will consider legislation related to LGBTQ discrimination. Some bills will hope to improve the wide-range of nondiscrimination laws that LGBTQ people so need, while others will attempt to target LGBTQ people for bias and uneven treatment. To stop this agenda from passing into law we must all vote in our local elections to stop discrimination from becoming law.

  • CREATE AND PROTECT LGBT SAFE SPACE

    Support individuals that live out and proud. Look for ways to demonstrate to the young people in your life that they can be themselves around you and anyone else they meet. Empower our youth to help others that might feel ostracized or harassed and make sure there are safe spaces for LGBT youth to share and heal. Become a mentor to our youth that are struggling to find themselves are their place in this world.

  • SUPPORT LOCAL ADVOCAY NEAR YOU

    Look in your local area for ways to take focus action to help fight for equality. There are rallies, support groups, and equality focused organizations looking for individuals to volunteer and serve to help support the fight. These organizations, in some cases, cannot run without the support of volunteers or allies of the LGBT community. If not through time financial assistance can also go a long meaningful way.

Sigma Xi Theta Fraternity will MOVE WITH PURPOSE for 2021! LGBT rights are under threat in this society. LGBT people continue to receive negative treatment and are seen with disdain and contempt. Now, our own government supports that hatred. In 2019, the US government revoke the rights of our Transgender brothers and Sisters in the military. This will take away the rights of our military personnel to live out, loud and proud. Our community has lost the work place extended protections for LGBTQ federal workers. With the removal of school protections for transgender students under the Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Whats next?

Sigma Xi Theta will make it our mission to speak up regarding this unfair treatment of the LGBT community and our rights.  We will focus our action on moving with purpose. Through social activism related to LGBT rights, we hope to create real change, to shifting the societal paradigm that allows our equality to be suppressed. We hope to inspiring others to join the fight for human rights, we all deserve. This goes beyond merely protesting but, encourages us to educate ourselves on the current laws, as well as, ways we can incite progressive action.
