Sigma Xi Theta Fraternity is a non-hazing organization. Hazing is defined as any action or situation that recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental or physical health or safety of an individual for the purpose of initiation or admission into or affiliation with any organization.

The term shall include, but not be limited to, any brutality of a physical nature, such as whipping, beating, branding, forced consumption of any food, liquor, drug or other substance, or any other forced physical activity that could adversely affect the physical health and safety of the individual and shall include any activity that would subject the individual to extreme mental stress, such as sleep deprivation, forced exclusion from social contact, forced conduct that could result in extreme embarrassment or any other forced activity that could adversely affect the mental health or dignity of the individual.

In addition, the following specific actions and activities are strictly prohibited and include but are not limited to:

PHYSICAL HAZING:

• Causing excessive physical fatigue through physical and psychological shocks
• Pushing, shoving, tackling, paddle swats, or any other act which may cause harm;
• Forcing or requiring pledges/associate members to drink alcohol or take any illegal drugs;
• Forcing or requiring branding, scarring, or tattooing;
• Throwing anything (garbage, water, paint, etc.) at or on an individual;
• Forcing, requiring, or endorsing theft of any personal property under any circumstances;
• Assigning or endorsing “pranks” or harassing another organization or individuals;
• Forcing, requiring, or endorsing the defacing of public or private property;

MENTAL HAZING:

• Forcing or requiring nudity at any time;
• Forcing or requiring the running of unreasonable personal errands (servitude);
• Forcing or requiring engagement in public stunts and shenanigans;
• Forcing or requiring shaving of head or body hair.
